  1. Midnight Psapp recording session

    August 8, 2006 by eshan_admin

Carim and I were hanging out this evening and then around midnight Carim gave me this mischievous look and suggested we go out and do a little recording session at this building site close-by… I was TOTALLY up for it…

…so off we went with a couple of pairs of sticks and some recording equipment…

..we had a great time… just hitting anything and everything…

…look forward to hearing what magic Carim and Gal work on this!

  2. Hangin’ out with Bluey & The Blue Man Group

    August 7, 2006 by eshan_admin

    Had a great time today….

…first of all I just went for a nice walk around London to kill some time…

…then I got to go up to Blueys studio and hang out for a while…

… Mao and I ended up setting up her drum kit and I gave her a little lesson in the basics…

… after that I made my way down to Covent Garden to the New London Theatre… …Oliver, who I met at the Big Chill a few days ago said he would make sure I would get in to see the show… … Adrian, the company manager, hooked me up with a seat which was so cool…. I was so excited to watch an actual show….

… the venue was packed… I think they said about 900 people were there…

    …the show was unbelievable… amazing….

…and totally inspiring… all I can say is GO AND SEE IT if you ever have the chance…

…afterwards a few of us went out for a drink at the pub around the corner… … … like I said, it was a great day…

  3. Wedding – yes it is true

    August 6, 2006 by eshan_admin

A couple of days ago Gordon asked me if I would fill in on drums at a wedding today…

…as I had off anyway and no immediate plans I thought ‘why not’…

…it’s been a long time since I have played on a function gig like this…

…the hotel it was in was beautiful and everyone involved really made an effort to make this a special day for the bride and groom…

I also got to see an old friend of mine – Dave Ital – we last played together in Urban Species many moons ago…

…so on that level it was nice but apart from that I really don’t think I could do a gig like this regularly….

… unless I could wear my wig and some sunglasses :oP

  4. The Big Chill – England

    August 5, 2006 by eshan_admin

Today was another day of MAD coincidences.

We all met up at Psapp HQ around 12:30 and left for the Big Chill

After we got there and sorted out the gear we got handed our passes and the program which listed who was playing etc… I randomly opened it and couldn’t believe my eyes…

Blue Man Group were doing a show 15 minutes from then… how bizarre is that…. so off I went….

…on the way over there I passed the Open stage and my good friend Shri was doing a show…

I hung about for 5 minutes to check them out and then continued on over to the Media Mix stage….

…when I got there, about 100 people or more were standing outside every entrance and there was NO way in… I couldn’t see anything and was really bummed… I managed to struggle forward a little but still no luck… then I realized I could get backstage with my wristband (doh)… which is exactly what I did….

… was so cool to see it live… up until now I had only seen the Complex DVD

…and then to my biggest surprise I saw Jens was playing… he auditioned me in Berlin a couple of weeks ago… trippy stuff!

So I hung out for a while and got to meet up with them all and I told them that we were playing a few hours later on the Sanctuary Stage… a few of them said they would check it out which was a nice….

…so then I went back to set up the gear and get ready for the show… Gal and Carim had an interview and then we had to get the gear on stage…

…the show went very well… sound was odd but it always is at festivals… but the crowd were really great and responsive which always makes things better… and at least my kit wasn’t moving all over the place as it was a couple of nights ago

…after the show we all got to hang out with friends who were at the festival… was quite a turnout actually…

…once we had packed all the gear together again I went back over to the Media Mix stage and got to watch the Blue Man Group from the front of the stage this time… was such a good show… those guys are amazingly talented… my favorite part was when they were throwing marshmallows into one of the Blue mans mouths and it just kept getting more and more full… how he did it I do not know….

…afterwards we all got to hang out a little more and I got to meet a whole bunch of the other musicians and blue men… all were so nice and done to earth… they are going to let me come down to check out some shows next week which I am really looking forward to…

…anyway now we are all on the bus back home and I am a little tired….

  5. Day off in London – well kinda

    August 3, 2006 by eshan_admin

Had a few bits and pieces to sort out today….

But before I did anything I took myself off into London and just a good old fashioned walk around… it was nice… I had Gordons iPod with me as he asked me to do a gig with him this Sunday with his function band and I needed to learn a whole bunch of trax…

…it was lovely though, people just sitting out having lunch and relaxing…

… a couple of Blue Men doing their thang… … … my back and shoulders have been giving me a bit of grief lately so I decided to treat myself to a little shiatsu massage…

…there is this place in the West End called RELAX where you can just walk in and book an appointment…

…it was soooooooooo what I needed… painful nonetheless but it did the trick!

…after that I popped into Wagamamas on Leicester Square to grab a bite… was okay but just isn’t the same since they stopped doing that amazing fresh chili paste… that was one of the whole reasons I enjoyed going there so much!

From there it was off to Putney…

…to Cato to get my next shippment of Hot Rods from ProMark

… and by sheer coincidence I bumped into Richie Mills, who has just started a solo project – we were just recently put in touch by Mark Wood as he will be needing a drummer for some shows in the near future… turns out he used to work here… what a small world indeed!

…just like Christmas… 50 pairs of HotRods :oP

After that I walked around London some more…

…and came across this cool instrument made by Roland… I had such a good time jamming on it… now I want one!

…to finish my day off I grabbed some more Japanese food and started putting together the first few lessons for my new online students… basically I am taking some of my teachings for my book and testing them on some willing volunteers via the internet… students include, Jim, Juana Molina and Steve Savoca at Domino to name a few…. looking forward to eventually getting some real feedback from them so I can take it to the next level!

This is what some of the other Psappsters were up to today:

  6. AMV- London + impromptu session with DOG

    August 2, 2006 by eshan_admin

I knew today was most likely going to be a mad one but it turned out even madder than I had imagined…

I decided to have a nice big English fry up at the best restaurant for that kind of thing that I know of: The Other Side here in Kings Cross… without a doubt my favorite fry up place around here… but as usual it kinda laid heavy in my stomach afterwards – always part of the package I guess….

From there it was back to Psapp HQ to load up the gear for the show…

We cabbed it down there and set up…

    Was a mad place…

Not a venue at all… just a lounge in the agency that was converted especially for the show…

Gal and I hunted around for freebies as we always do and came across the greatest collection of crisps EVER lol!

So it was crisps and fizzy for the next couple of hours whilst we set up and soundchecked…

Once that was done, Jim, Carim and I popped out for a bite… Carim recommended we go to this Lebanese place he had been before just around the corner… was great…. bit of a rush though as showtime was at 19:00… when we got back to the agency it was already pretty packed…

Hardly knew anyone there to start with but then my good friends Takami, Bluey, Mao and her friend turned up…

Was so great to see them… the show went really well apart from the fact that my drumkit kept moving all over the place…. was a really wobbly makeshift stage and once everyone on stage started moving, the kit and mic’s moved with them… oh well, not to worry….

Was great to catch up with some friends afterwards and even make some new acquaintances (Hi Bart)…

But whilst everyone was getting down and dirty I had to pack up my stuff and then shoot off to West London…

My old bandmate Mark aka DOG was doing some advert music and needed some ‘Stomp’ style percussion on it… so they had me come over…. was great to finally get together and do some stuff together… we have been meaning to for quite some time now… last time we worked with each other was back in 2003… how time flies… anyway, the commercial was for some government thing… recruiting community police I think… but it was so cool because Mark actually had me play ‘to film’ – which is something I had never done before…

We did just over ten takes of different percussion and then Marks very talented (and pleasant) assistant Joss started going through it all and picking the best stuff out and assembling it… they work very well together as a team it has to be said… I hung out for a while until they had their first rough edit… sounded great… can’t wait to hear what it turns out like
when it is done… they have to have an edit done by tomorrow morning I think and then it is to be approved by THE home secretary on Monday… like I said… kind of a mad day…. but now I am wrecked and need to get some sleep!

  7. Off to London again…

    August 1, 2006 by eshan_admin

Back off to London… we have some shows with Psapp… we are playing at an advertising agency believe it or not tomorrow… this is an invite only event as far as I am aware – industry etc… then it’s off to The Big Chill Saturday and Summer Sundae Festival in Leicester next Friday…. have quite a bit of time of in London which I hope to use productively… we’ll see if that happens :OP
